Taylor Swift? Who the hell is this chick?

On The Charts 1/28/09

With Taylor Swift having a chokehold on the number one slot for a seventh straight week, the country singer/songwriter has now officially broken 50 Cent’s record for consecutive weeks at the top spot. Still holding it down at the No. 2 spot for the “Single Ladies” is Beyonce, with I Am… Sasha Fierce moving about 51,000 copies. Holding steady at the No. 4 spot is 808s & Heartbreaks by Kanye West, selling 39,200 units, with Keyshia Cole’s A Different Me behind at No. 6 with 31,300 copies sold. Jamie Foxx can add another gold plaque to his long list of awards, with Intuition selling approximately 30,300 copies to land at the No. 8 spot, with about 509,900 copies since its release. Rounding out the top 10 is the soundtrack to the film Notorious, which sold about 29,000 copies drop to the No. 9 position, and Mariah Carey’s Ballads, selling 28,700 copies to take the No. 10 spot.

Akon’s Freedom took a slight tumble down the charts to land at No. 17 with about 21,500 copies sold, and behind him is T.I. with Paper Trail moving approximately 20,900 units. T.I.’s guest on his single “Live Your Life,” Rihanna, lands at No. 22 for Good Girl Gone Bad, selling about 17,500 copies to land at the No. 22 spot. Meanwhile, fellow Southern rap star Ludacris takes the No. 34 spot with Theater Of The Mind selling 4,100 copies to total 518,200 units sold after nine weeks.

Ne-Yo continues his steady trek towards platinum sales with The Year Of The Gentleman selling about 15,000 copies to land at No. 29. Although dropping eight spots to No. 41 from selling 12,200 copies this week, fellow R&B singer John Legend has earned a gold plaque for Evolver, now with about 502,600 records sold. Right behind Evolver is Plies’ Da Realist, selling about 12,100 to take the No. 42 spot.

Will Taylor Swift continue to dominate the charts, or will there be a new number one next week? Stay tuned.
